Place the eggs in a pan of cold water; bring this to a boil, lower the heat, and simmer for 8 minutes.
Cool the eggs in the fridge for an hour so they'll be easier to peel, then peel them and slice them lengthwise. Scoop the yolks out into a bowl and set the whites aside on a plate.
Peel and seed the avocado and mash it with the egg yolks. Add the onion, cilantro, lime juice, salt, and pepper, tasting to ensure the balance of flavours is what you want.
Spoon the mixture back into the egg white halves and top them with a sprinkle of cayenne pepper, chili powder, or paprika.
