Hungarian Short Ribs

Cut the ribs into serving-size pieces and trim any excess fat.

Heat a little oil in a large, heavy pot, brown the ribs on all sides, then add the onions and cook gently for 10 minutes.

Blend together the tomato sauce, one cup of the water, brown sugar, vinegar, & spices and pour this over the meat. Cover and simmer until the meat is almost tender, about 2 hours.

Skim off the fat and stir in the noodles and remaining 1 cup water. Cover and cook, stirring occasionally, till the noodles are tender, 20–25 minutes more.
