Peel the eggs and slice them lengthwise. Scoop the yolks out into a bowl and set the whites aside on a plate.
Peel and seed the avocado and mash it with the egg yolks. Add the onion, cilantro, lime juice, salt, and pepper, tasting to ensure the balance of flavours is what you want.
Spoon the mixture back into the egg white halves and top them with a sprinkle of cayenne pepper, chili powder, or paprika.
